Busy Week in the Industry

It's been the school holidays here in the UK and many businesses have wound down for the Summer (I thought that it was just France that closed for August).

I'm pleased to say that I'm happy that this has been a busy week in the mobile industry.
There has been a lot for me to think and write about, from Three and giffgaff changing their PAYG unlimited data plans, to the release of a new MVNO - hello to ROK Mobile.

It's great to have some decent, interesting news to report. This blog, my website and my Twitter profile all stem from a passion that I've left unfulfilled for far too long, and it is highly rewarding to see them increasing in popularity - Thank you to all of my visitors and readers!

This week, the LG Wine Smart raised my hopes of finally having a clamshell phone once again - I only wish that it had been released in 2009, as it's specs really aren't that great.
Samsung - your own Galaxy Folder stands a fair chance of success in Europe if LG think that their OAP Android clamshell is worth a European release.
The Galaxy Folder's specs are a step up from LG's fold phone, but at least Samsung have at least tried to put a little bit of style into the Galaxy Folder - It's a shame that they didn't look at the gorgeous flip phones that were around seven years ago for some more inspiration. These phones are all about form factor and style.

Advert for the Samsung Galaxy Folder, which is not going to reach the UK.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be updating my PAYG mobile site http://mobile-networks-uk.weebly.com/ due to giffgaff's Goodybag changes and Three's frankly quite shocking PAYG unlimited data bundle price increase.
- I asked Three to #makeitright on Twitter, and they responded by saying how mobile data use is still growing and they need to charge more for it.

Giffgaff on the other hand have announced some Goodybag (bundle) changes which are a bit of a double-edged sword: The £20 unlimited data Goodybag will let you use 6GB of data, after which data speeds are throttled to 256kbps - and this slow speed isn't even tetherable. Anyone wanting unlimited data should look elsewhere.
But giffgaff's changes aren't all bad, as 4G will be provided as standard on all Goodybags, and 4G will also reach PAYG customers who don't purchase a Goodybag by October time.
It should be noted that giffgaff have merged their 3G and 4G Goodybags, and the data allocations have become an average of the two, so 3G Goodybag users will find that they don't get as much data for the same price, whilst previous 4G Goodybag users will get more data for their money.

I hope that next week is as interesting as this one!
